Early Career Teachers

Early Career Teachers

We’re pleased to announce that we’re partnering with Best Practice Network to deliver our Early Career Teachers programme from this Autumn. We are delighted that they have received Outstanding Ofsted judgements in all areas during their inspection in May 2023.

Why this programme?

With retention an issue across the education sector, investment in teachers’ development has never been more important, especially for those who are just starting out.  Flexibly delivered with the time constraints of an Early Career Teacher in mind, the programme comprehensively delivers all the content of the Early Career Framework and slots neatly into the schedule of an early career teacher.

  • Face-to-face and online webinars with leading experts
  • Regular meetings with an in-school mentor
  • Self-study featuring rich multimedia content including videos, practical tasks and discussion activities

Cutting edge insight

Give your early career teachers and mentors access to the best available evidence, alongside internationally-recognised effective practice from around the world.

Curriculum

The Early Career Teachers programme is a blended learning experience. It provides teachers and their mentors with high quality, evidence-informed training and materials, alongside scaffolding to ensure effective mentoring.

Cost

The Early Career Teachers programme is funded by the Department for Education. For most schools the Early Career Framework is provided at non cost to the school.

Registering a new ECT

How do I ensure that I have registered the ECT for the professional development package and the Appropriate Body?

We are happy to help and advise on the process for registering ECTs. You will find screen shots and detailed advice in our handbook, which we will soon publish on this site.

Step 1 – DDAT Form : Complete this form so that we have your details and can start to register your ECT for the Early Career Framework with Best Practice. You do not need to contact Best Practice directly.

Step 2 DfE Portal: Ensure that you register the ECT and Mentor on the DfE portal. This can be accessed here. Please check that you have selected the correct year. Your induction tutor can also use this portal to change information that has been previous entered such as a change of mentor. This step is required to check the details of the ECT but also used by the DfE to ensure that the funding is paid back into the schools.

Step 3 Register with Best Practice Network (BPN): If you have not used BPN previously, then you will need to register your school here.

Step 4 – Appropriate Body – All ECTs must have an Appropriate Body. All DDAT Trust schools use Flying High Appropriate Services. The ECT is registered through ECT Manager by the school. The link for Flying High ECT Manager is here. You will also use this link to write the reports for the ECT, against the Teacher’s Standards. For Trusts outside the DDAT Trust, you can find the lists of appropriate bodies here.
